It should be noted that not ALL Unleashed lyrics suck. Most are solid, but then Johnny comes out with “Joy in the Sun” or “Ms. Minister” or 90% of “Hell’s Unleashed” and the shocking badness of it all makes you forget how many adequate-to-excellent lyrics there are.

But I have a theory that Johnny’s a huge Venom fan and those goofball songs are his little homage to Venom’s goofy catalog (“Teacher’s Pet,” anyone?). If that’s the case, I can suffer through a couple when there’s 12-14 songs on any given Unleashed album.

And when the HELL did Unleashed’s guitarists get so good? These last three albums are chock full of badass riffing and sweeeet solos.

Now wait, you dog the lyrics on this album and use that as your reason for not giving this album a better score but then you turn around and give Rhapsody of Fire // The Frozen Tears of Angels a 5.0?? Rhapsody of Fire has the worst lyrics ever lol. Not saying this album deserves a 5 but if lyrics come into play when giving out scores then they should come into play with every review.

Fair enough. I don’t think that’s really the case, but I can see where you’re coming from. I think there are very few metal bands who are writing lyrics that are really worth listening to, honestly. They tend to get pretty cheesy and/or melodramatic.
