Another embarrassing doubled up Record o’ the Month post? Wow, man. Just, wow. Just wait until you see how I didn’t choose the particular thing that you worship, again. I’m sure the comments section will be a delight.

An Interview with Rimfrost and Son of Sam
“Below I’ve tried to compile the highlights of the amazing hour-and-a-half conversation I had with the guys. Though I tried to keep it focused, professional, and kid-friendly, I have failed. I know what you’re going to say, Steel, but it wasn’t my fault.”
Scarred – Scarred Review
“One of the more mystifying phenomena in the development in the metal scene is the emergence of “tech metal.” So far as I understand it, tech metal is a European scene and the bands therein are the aftermath of the total collapse in interest in djent in the rest of the world. Wisely, the Europeans rebranded, and even more wisely, they learned (though I believe “learnt” is also acceptable over there) to play something other than Meshuggah riffs. The results are… well, that’s the odd part.” Scar-core.
Angry Metal Guy’s Top 10(ish) of 2020
May 2021 be a better year for us all.
Bricks & Diamonds: The Best and Worst Sounding Albums of 2019
“In the tradition of the past Angry Metal-Fi end of year articles, some of the AMG team came together with a list of what we consider the best and worst sounding albums of 2019. Encouragingly, there were far more best-sounding albums on the shortlist than worst-sounding. Is this perhaps indicative of a subtle shift from extreme brickwalling in the broader metal market? We can only hope…” Bricks are for throwing.
Fleshgod Apocalypse – Veleno Review
“Fleshgod Apocalypse—known affectionately at the AMG offices as “Death Metal Rhapsody of Fire”—had a meteoric rise from its humble beginnings on 2009’s innovative Oracles. Though these Italian death metallers started on a Candlelight/Willtowtip, Nuclear Blast wasted no time elevating them to underground metal’s biggest stage. That pickup resulted in a larger budget, bigger productions and an evolution beyond the band’s death metal quartet status.” One of the brightest stars in the death metal universe is back with its fifth album. Will this be the one that makes us all go “Uuaaaaaauuuu”?
The Mute Gods – Atheists & Believers Review
“With some exceptions, in a rule-of-thumb sort of way, the ‘technical’ modifier means ‘this was harder to play’ while ‘progressive’ means ‘this was harder to write.’ As such, experience is highly valued among progressive musicians especially, and progressive supergroups seem more common than other genres. The Mute Gods is another one of those, consisting of Steven Wilson’s bassist Nick Beggs and drummer Marco Minnemann, who also performs guitars here, and keyboard player Roger King who played with Nick and Steve Hackett of Genesis fame.” Great expectations.
Defecal of Gerbe – Mothershit Review
“I’ve come around to better goregrind since, first by early Carcass and then Haemorrhage and General Surgery. Novelty grind, such as the shockingly good Trappist, has also wormed its way into my rotation. I haven’t listened enough to form an opinion, but Bitchfork and their “farm grind” is making a splash too. Defecal of Gerbe is novelty goregrind, except instead of gore the focus is on the scatological. Mothershit is also sung in French, meaning I miss about ninety percent of the jokes outside of some titles. C’est la vie.” POO-urns.
Corrective Measures: Angry Metal Guy’s Stack o’ Shame Edition
“Like with video games or books, one’s “Stack o’ Shame” is the stuff one intends to do but has not been able to do for one reason or another. These reviews are all too late to write full 600-800 word reviews for. On the other hand, I am going to be way too busy this winter to be able to handle writing a bunch of TYMHM. So, I am invoking my right to rule through this (hopefully one-off) post that rounds up some stuff that I fully intended to review and didn’t. So by ways of an apology to both you, the readers, and the albums in my Stack o’ Shame, I bring you some angry, metal blurbs. Mea culpa.” Sometimes sorry is enough.
Nine Years of Angry: A Retrospective in Numbers
“We here at AngryMetalGuy.com are a bunch of nerds. Writers at AMG.com, both past and present, hold a surprising number of degrees and we get pretty nerdy about the site. We haven’t quite done diffusion analyses of opinions among writers, but we got dangerously close a few years ago. As one might expect, it means that we have a pretty nerdy readership and one such nerd just dropped a bunch of stats on us. We couldn’t help bask narcissistically in its glow and it being written, we thought that we should definitely pass it on to you to enjoy.”
